Off The Bench

Well actually the show is called On the Bench and is the second piece from Class Stage Productions to contrast and complement their other show Dances For Wolves that I did a photocall for last week on the Lawnmarket. This time we - me and a few other press photogs, were down in Princes Street Gardens. We tried something on a bench, under the trees, but it didn't really work, so we moved down to the open grass space and set up a few shots. In the play there are a couple of slo-mo sequences - one to celebrate a goal and the other to berate a player for missing a chance. The photographer who took charge had the idea of setting up a defensive wall and got the goal to be there as if kicking the ball. Se then asked if she could actually kick the ball over the wall. Only trouble was she ended up kicking at smack, straight into one of the girls - ouch!! A pity they didn't have any football skills, as maybe that would have been a different sort of shot, maybe a bit of keepie-up, or heading the ball to each other (like Tony Blair and Kevin Keegan did once)? There was also a bit of a comment made that the ball was an 'England' ball - perhaps not ideal north of the border ;-) They take on roles as male England internationals in the play but I wonder how easy it would be for them to tweak the show to reflect the location - if you are in Edinburgh then why not Scotland, or Hibs or Hearts?
Going back to see House of Yes again tonight. Think the guys have picked it up a bit after the first night (which was still good, but had a couple of minor wobbles).
