The kotare

Kotare is the Maori name for the New Zealand Kingfisher (Halcyon sancta).

A gusting North-East wind ruffled the feathers up a wee bit.

At this time of year the kotare come down to the coast to feed, so it is very easy to find them because they are everywhere. You do need to be crafty to get a photograph of them though as they are quite twitchy if they see you.
