Our Assault on Ben Nevis
Today was our last full day up in the beautiful highlands of Scotland and we couldn't leave before attempting to summit Ben Nevis! Well, I could've but Matt had other ideas!! No...seriously I'm soo glad I did it but it wasn't easy by any stretch!!
We started off in sunny warm conditions which continued until we were half way up and that's where we stopped to have our packed lunch. Then it was time to put on our fleeces and start ascending the second half. During this time the cloud started coming down and it got damper and cooler the higher we got, so on went the waterproofs
After 4 hours and 15 minutes we got to the summit but as you can see there wasn't much of a view!!
The descent, without stopping, took us 3 hours and 20 minutes and all I can say, was that the last hour was pure physical torture!! So much impact on knees, ankles etc, that my legs were like jelly by the time I got to the bottom. Thank goodness for walking poles is all I can say! Couldn't have done it without them! Matt was like a mountain goat going up and down the mountain but bless him, he was very patient with me!
Thankfully at the bottom of the mountain is the Ben Nevis Inn so that was our first port of call for some well deserved alcoholic liquid refreshment!!!
