Guinea Pig Zero

Affectionate Passer-by

I've been cat-sitting for some friends who have four of their own. The day before they set off on vacation, this little mite accosted them on the porch and was taken in as a foster, just as they placed the two fosters they already had in permanent homes. It's segregated in a bathroom by itself and has not been to the vet --it's making do with food, shelter, and a bath. But it's not robust and full of energy, as a kitten should be at this age. Affectionate yes. Normal no. Its stubbled whiskers and lazy eyes tell of a rough life on the streets (and very possibly, some serious illness). The hosts will be home Tuesday and line this wanderer up with everything that's needed. Meanwhile all I can do is scratch its head and say hello each day --and then wash my hands as soon as I close the bathroom door. With any luck it will survive, be named, and live long.
