butterfly...

...caught because it was standing still - and metal!

i know... most people are able to capture the real ones - but i just don't see them around here and if i do, well... they are way too fast for me... so here's the next best thing...

metal sculputures that have been created by local artists to help promote arts in schools... it's a community service called "butterflies and friends" an initiative created by a local rotary club to serve children and build art programs in schools that are facing major challenges and transitions... how cool is that? they got a boatload of local artists to create, then donate these large scale metal butterflies - that are currently floating around the city - which will then be auctioned off in september. the resulting funds will go to the schools. since its inception a few years ago, the initiative has raised over $100,000 in funds... for kids... to learn about the arts... to grow... to know their community cares. so awesome...

i might try and locate some more of these beauties around the city before they're removed for the auction... you're just given an address and then get to hunt - so it's kind of like capturing real ones... sort of - okay... in my dreams...
