Flowers for Chapel

Today I attended a very personal and special service at chapel. I have accepted joint membership of the Methodist church in addition to my C of E afiliation. Our congregation is small but very warm and welcoming and I have always felt comfortable there. We had a spread afterwards of homemade cakes and biscuits washed down with lots of tea! A very happy occasion. I wanted to provide the flowers for today so cut these from the garden. I grew the astors from seed and the cornflowers were bought as seedings on a recent canal boat holiday. I thought the colours looked good together and they certainly looked very pretty on the altar table.
'Last night at the Proms' proved to be a wonderful evening. I had taken extra warm clothes ,blanket and waterproofs and of course it was beautifully warm and dry! The highlight of the evening for me was a display by a lone Spitfire aircraft. It wheeled, dived and turned somersaults in the Summer sky to the music of the Dambusters and I found it extremely moving. We had all taken contributions of picnic food and I ate far too much but made up for it today by eating very little (until the chapel tea!) I didn't take my camera, I am still a bit paranoid about losing things and I now only have my 'big' camera. (Need to go shopping for another little compact.)
With Castle Howard providing a stunning backdrop, it was massively reassuring to see so many union jacks waving and so many people of all ages enjoying a huge good natured picnic to the accompaniment of beautiful music.
