The Daughter of the Bride
We spent a lovely day in Oxfordshire with the clan at the wedding of my husbands first cousin . John's bride is from Canada and this was part two of their marital celebrations. John's father Jack was the High Commissioner to Canada when he was a child and he has always loved the country. It is no surprise to any of us that he has chosen to settle there.
Young Laura was not a happy bridesmaid. I think she felt rather overwhelmed by her new step family and it took much coaxing to get her to sit for a portrait this afternoon. I had to take her off to a quiet, rather dark corner with a maple syrup, maple leaf lollipop to warm her up a bit. I always love this type of oil painting lighting for kids. Especially for this kind of dramatic , moody expression.
