Chichele College

This detail is part of a college in Higham Ferrers high street which was founded in 1422 by Henry Chichele, then Archbishop of Canterbury. The college was for secular canons numbering 18 in all.
In later years the college became and inn and later still a farm. There would have been small statues in the niches but these were destroyed by Thomas Cromwell's soldiers during the reformation in the 16th century.
Only the ruins survive today save for one hall which is now used for artistic exhibitions.
