Will work for money!
So I landed a proofreading gig! YAY! Big achievement. This photo depicts my view for today. Sitting at my desk, working from home. A dream come true. Five minutes of fame.
For those of you who don't know, I love to write, and I love to edit. I've known that forever, I just never realized I could do something with it, until recently, (thank you, my Karlitas!)
I was laid off in June from my job of 3 years, and I have since been searching high and low for opportunities to make some money, maybe even doing something I want to do...anything but going back to an office. So, I posted an ad on Craigslist, one of many, and low and behold, I landed a gig as a proofreader. Nothing crazy, but it's legit, nonetheless. Not only did I land a gig, I landed a good one! I gained financial income from this, as well as experience, knowledge and a networking opportunity. I'm working for a UCSD graduate/Master of Science. He needed a proofreader for his medical application, and I was lucky enough to be able to assist him.
My client, I suppose you could call him - yay, is from Iran, and his story of success is quite impressive, and touching. I was able to see inside the life of a man raised in abominable conditions, who has accomplished the impossible. He traveled to America to pursue his dream to study technological and medical science and succeeded. He is now a Master of Science, UCSD graduate, on his way to a professional career in Medicine. How awesome.
This photo is monumental to me; it symbolizes an amazing time in my life.
...and although it's a small, and most likely short-term thing, it still means a lot. Yay!
