No 97: Egyptian Goose
Today, I thought I would take myself off to Attenborough Nature Reserve near Nottingham. We went earlier in the year and I enjoyed it a lot - it's a fine reserve and well worth a visit. There are lots of areas of open water with loads of water fowl, and the River Trent forms one of the reserve's boundaries. Last time we went we saw a few of these odd-looking birds, but it was trumped by a red-crested pochard for my blip, so I was pleased that there were plenty around today. They have clearly bred there, as there were young birds of various ages.
As far as travel goes, what I thought would be a simple journey turned out to be anything but. The outward first leg to Derby was delayed so I missed my connection and had to wait for an hour, and returning, I was told the wrong platform and so ended up missing my intended train, and came back via Nottingham. It's good to know that the trains are as reliably unreliable as when I plied my trade up and down the country!
A few more pictures on my photostream including a rather amusing starling disguised as a blackberry.
