Farewell Chep

We arrived home from our holidays full of joy and relaxation. Sadly a letter was waiting for us. A neighbour just wanted to let us know that Chep had to be put down on the 9th of August due to a tumour which was prohibitng his breathing and affecting his balance. We knew he was getting worse and yet he battled on. I suppose deep down I had hoped he could hang on a bit longer.

We were all in tears. Chep was not our dog but he was an important member of the family. We shared him. For years he would appear at the door and sit out in all weathers, he loved kids and watched patiently as they tugged out of him.

We would send him home but you would find him hiding behind the bushes waiting till you went to bed, then he would take up position. While feeding our own dogs I would always keep some for him. He was very independent and liked his space and yet wherever I went he was always beside me. Rita said she had never seen such faithfulness.

My loyal friend, we will miss him dearly.
