Harbor, Newport, Oregon

It's proving difficult to find an available campsite on the Oregon coast--a big change from the last time we were here about five years ago. I'm trying very hard not to buy into campground anxiety and just enjoy the journey, but it is frustrating to be turned away when you are tired of driving. We did luck out again today and found a place at South Beach State Park just out of Newport; this is an enormous campground about a half mile back from the ocean--the walk is pleasant through beach scrub and over sand dunes to the water.
We splurged and had dinner in town--fried oysters and fennel coleslaw and a view of the harbor that was pretty spectacular in the late evening light.
