Wellington Bridge

First of all I want to say thanks for the get well wishes from yesterdays blip. Everything went well and got home last night at about 9:30.

This is Wellington Bridge that crosses the River Dee in Aberdeen. I got this after taking my FIL home after watching the Scotland vs Denmark football game tonight.

The Wellington Suspension Bridge - known locally as the 'Chain Brig' - links Riverside Drive in Ferryhill with the high bank of Craiglug and Torry. It was built with funds provided by the Heritors of the Church of Nigg, replacing the Craiglug ferry.

This narrow bridge was designed by Captain Samuel Brown and opened in 1831 to replace the Craiglug ferry. Refurbished in 1930, the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in 1984 and to pedestrians in March 2002, because of corrosion in the wrought-iron chains and deterioration in the deck timbers. Following extensive renovation to strengthen and preserve the bridge, it was re-opened as a public footbridge in 2009.

The Bridge is a Category A Listed Building and is one of only two listed Ancient Monuments in Aberdeen, the other being the Brig o' Dee.
