Tap valves - hard to tell 'em apart eh? No!!

A second long and very boring story ....

Following a previous plumber's-merchant-related-disappointment, I went direct to the manufacturer to get a replacement for the soon-to-seize up tap valve. Turned the water off, all that guff, took the tap apart - again - and found that the valve is the same as the ones sold to me by Abbot & Costello a few weeks back and doesn't fit.

Even to the untrained eye, its quite different to the original. So ... it's gonna be going back along with a photo and a sarky email (not like me, I know). Meanwhile, I gave the old valve a tickle, put it back and it's working fine again ... for now.
