Zak1
I've recently started working on a new project at work. It involves a protein called Zak1 in Dictyostelium. I've known about Zak1 for quite a while but never realised where the Za part of the name came from.
After reading this article today (in Cell, one of the preeminent scientific journals publishing research papers within the life sciences), I found out.
I wonder if Douglas Adams ever knew he had a protein named after one of his characters? I bet he'd have approved.
