Journey's end!
Thursday
This fellow greeted us when we finally arrived at our campsite up near Lake Erie this evening. We'd had an eventful journey. When Roger and Philip went to pick up our pop-up camper from the storage facility yesterday evening, they found it had a flat tire, so Roger put the spare on, and this morning called a tire place to see if they had a new one in stock. Unfortunately, its a slightly unusual size and they didnt. So we set off without a spare. We had got maybe half-way, when a car passed us, gesticulating about something. So we pulled over, and Roger discovered one of the other tires (it's a double axle) was losing its tread. So he tried some aerosol tire repair in the flat tire and put that back on. We have used these a couple of times before, once on the car and once on the camper, and both times it worked really well. However, this time we made it perhaps another 20 miles or so and we heard this popping sound. So we pulled over again, to find that the tire had basically 'exploded'! So Roger changed the tire again, putting back the tire that was losing its tread, and we limped slowly to the next exit. We were beginning to think we would have to give up on the idea of reaching our campsite that night and find a hotel for the night, then call around tire places in the morning. Fortunately, however, at the next exit there was a Walmart with a tire department - they closed at 7pm, and the time was about two minutes before 7! They didnt have a tire, but they did have a complete wheel, so Roger changed the wheel one last time, and we were finally able to finish our journey, arriving at the campsite about 8.30pm. We quickly set up the camper, then went out to eat.
