It's greengage season!
I used to turn my nose up at my Mum when she got so excited about cod roe season, but I now see that I actually show the same behviour over greengages. I love greengage season - though it only seems to last about a fortnight. I've already had two today out of this box - only two because I have to pace myself to make them last, otherwise I'd eat them all and they're not always easy to find in the shops. In fact I didn't even buy these - my cousin bought them for me when she saw them. Bless her - she's so thoughtful. She did also give me a Dobbies voucher for Christmas a few years back with the aim of me buying myself a greengage tree with it, but every time I go in, all the greenage trees are always gone - there's just an empty plinth with a "Greengage" label stuck on it's base. I think this shows just how popular greengages are - must be gardens up and down the country with greengages dropping off branches left, right and centre. Anyway, one day, I will get myself a greengage tree and there will be no more trawling around the fruit and veg shops of Fife looking for them every August.
