Turkish Tent, Painshill Park, Surrey

- Backblip -

What a treat to visit this ornamental pleasure ground in Cobham, created by Charles Hamilton in the 1700s, following a Grand Tour of Europe. A park of over 250 acres, with a large lake and a grotto built across two islands and a Chinese bridge. There are several follies including a ruined abbey, a mausoleum, a Gothic Tower and a Gothic Temple. It even has a large vineyard running downhill to the lake.

My favourite place was this Turkish Tent. The crescent moon is made of lime wood, clad with gold leaf. From here you can sit and take in much of this amazing landscape.

30C today, a bit too hot for me, however we walked the whole park.
