Life Dancing

Culture

Instead of initial Blip, changed tack after passing this site in Buchanan St. en route to Queen St station.
The demolition site has already had numerous Blips http://www.blipfoto.com/entry/1260968 ...but there's a personal slant to this.
It's my last day in Glasgow for a while and final chance to Blip a farewell to a much loved space that was an integral part of life for a number of years.

The location used to house a much loved studio, not state-of-the-art but a quirky and timeless space. The beautiful sprung, maple dance floor with its perfect acoustic
tone was a rarity. (tried and failed to salvage it)
The favourite cafe a few doors down, with its ambience, great decor and delicious cakes...gone.
We've moved on, literally... but today, seeing the big sign about culture and shopping
enraged the heck out of me.

More shopping, really?
Whose vision is this?
There's already a huge shopping mall opposite.

It's the second time I've experienced a city centre studio being wiped out.
Finding suitable alternative space is increasingly tough and time consuming.

It's doubtful that places such as the Traverse Theatre (started in an old tenement block) would exist in its present day incarnation if it's founders had had to contend with the corporate culture that envelops us now.

Joni Mitchell was on it....
