Our very own Baby Boom
Apparently there's a memo going around the women in The Boyfriend's family saying NOW is the time to have babies. Five pregnancies have now been announced.
18 Weeks (The Boyfriend's twin brother and his wife),
17 Weeks (The Boyfriend's sister and her partner),
14 Weeks (The Boyfriend's twin cousins and their wives ? due two days apart!), and
7 Weeks (The Boyfriend and his non-fiancee.. Wait... That's us!!). Four of those five pregnancies are twins. NINE NEW BABIES ARE ON THE WAY! Talk about a baby boom!!
Naturally, I wanted to get a photo of my not-quite sisters-in-law and their bumps. The Boyfriend's sister had to deal with some lingering morning sickness though, and wasn't much feeling like posing. So this is The Boyfriend's sister-in-law, and my two nephews. Later down the track when all five of us have visible bumps happening (I'll get my babies to hurry it up for you), I'll get a photo of all the belly action.
What's got me laughing is that I found out completely by surprise a week ago. I had a urine test that came back positive, so I had a blood test just to be sure. It came back negative. I've had false positives before, so I thought nothing of it. I was scheduled for an ultrasound on my kidneys and ovaries because I've had some lingering pain since the car accident a few weeks ago, so my doctor just wanted to have a look. The sonographer said everything looked okay. Then paused.
"Wait. Your uterus is swollen. Is there a chance you're pregnant?"
"No, I had a blood test come back negative on Friday."
"Hmm... Have you had Pelvic Inflamatory Disease before?"
"Yes."
"Well, I'll just investigate a little while you're he..ee...er... I found the causes."
"CAUSES?!?!?! PLURAL?!?!?!"
"Yep. You're pregnant. With twins."
To say I was shocked would be an understatement.
I decided I would tell The Boyfriend on his birthday at the end of the month, and when he hijacked my blip during the week, going on about wanting a pregnancy for his birthday, I laughed. A lot. And one of my readers would have as well, as she's my aunt, and she was the first person I told, complete with an image from the scan.
I made the mistake of telling the not-quite brother-in-law of the pregnancy, because he's been on at me for weeks, telling me I'm pregnant. So I didn't lie. But I did my best to dance around the issue. I made him promise not to tell a soul. Buuuuuut, he is worse than a girl when it comes to secrets. He told his wife, who told The Boyfriend's sister, who told their mother, who called him (at work) to congratulate him on the exciting news.
"Huh? If this is about the new job, that was lined up weeks ago... Not exactly new news, mum."
"No, silly. The pregnancy!"
"Oooh, who's pregnant now?"
"Uhhh... Your girlfriend... You... You didn't know?"
"No."
So I got a call from him asking me to explain... And then I mentioned the twin factor. He is insanely excited, and cannot wait for the ultrasound the day before his birthday.
I'll keep you up to date when interesting things happen.
