today i spent some time at the community centre where my housemate works. i met this awesome young girl, christine. she is 22, has lost both parents and is helping to care for her two younger brothers, both are HIV positive. she told me how she longs to inspire them to live good, healthy, meaningful lives despite their status.

this alone was inspirational but then she began to tell me why she felt it was important that she was part of the youth centre. she said there was a moment when she realised that every other girl her age had dropped out of the programme because of pregnancy. she decided right then to continue to be part of the youth centre to be a role model to younger girls. by simply being there she hopes to be an example that it is possible to be young, abstinent, educated and ambitious.
