Pure Speed
This is the Mallard.
No duck.
Holder of the world speed record for a train on the 3rd of July 1938.
Many decades later a Japanese train would attain a few miles per hours faster - the renowned Bullet Train.
At the time that the steam powered Mallard broke all records it was used to power the flying scotsman service from Edinburgh to London.
No diesel train at the time could match its speed.
In fact, even when the Mallard retired at end of service there were still no diesel locomotives that could exceed 124 MPH that it could.
It seems that the age of Engineering excellence that once drove the world is a forgotten age.
Much enjoyed my trip to the National Railway Museum in York.
