Oslo
I got home to Oslo yesterday.....I have been out of town since before the tragedy hit our city. It has been hard not being here - and good to not be here as well. It would have been frightning to be here when the bomb hit and stories of Utøya started to hit the media. It was a nightmare for Oslo and it is going to take a long time to heal. For those families that have lost loved ones, things will never be the same again.
I went downtown with E. Im so glad she went with me, I wouldnt have wanted to be there on my own this first time. The destruction from the bomb was extensive - windows blown out for blocks. What hits the hardest, while at the same time is the most beautiful are the millions of flowers covering the city...literally millions. Along with candles, letters, cards, teddy bears and photos....it is love materialized.
I will photograph it later today - yesterday I needed to just be there and take it in. This photo was at a youth centre, where the window had been been blown out and some young men were decorating the boarding with some friendly Oslo graffiti.
In all the sorrow, Oslo people are taking care of each other.....Im proud to be part of this city and nation.
