Race Day

I haven't been blipping lately due to some serious computer problems plus all my time is being taken up with the concert project, of which the first concert is Weds. and I'm still finalizing the coordination.

Anyway, I'd planned this getaway over a month ago, to photograph the Riggins Jet Boat Race. I'd photographed the race 2 years ago, but I'm pretty sure all of those images are lost in one of my previous hard drive crashes. Not as much "action" this year. in 2006 I photographed a very nice series related to a crash, and I'm disappointed those files are (or may be lost). I have the sequence on my blog in low resolution, if you're interested in viewing them (look for the archives, April 2006). Although, this is a nice shot.

It is much colder this year also. Snowed today, even.

I was supposed to be here for 2 days, but I'll be going home tomorrow. On my way back to the hotel after the race the clutch on my truck gave out and I lost all gears and ended up on the side of the road. In the mountains. Between two small towns 30 miles apart. And it was snowing. And there is no cell phone service.

Hiking with thumb out, I hit the road. About 4 miles later I got a ride to a local "trading post" (country store/restaurant/gas station) where I spent the next 3 hours waiting for a tow truck from the next valley over to come pick me up and take me to my truck then to my hotel.

Did I mention I'm 130 miles from home?

So, as I write this on my new laptop (yay! I can blip on the road like a real photographer!), my plan is to leave the truck here for repairs and rent a car for the interim instead of incurring an $800 tow bill on top of repair costs.

I did have a good time, though, at the races.
