....I cut down trees, I eat my lunch.....
That's more or less what I did today.
For those of you who think all anglers do is sit and drown maggots, this was us today.
Fishing lakes take a fair bit of maintenance, platforms and pegs need repairing, plants need controlling, the oxygen content of the water and the water temperature need checking to ensure that algae doesn't grow out of control and kill the fish......and every so often the trees and bushes need trimming.
Henry, our Chief Bailiff, had got it into his head that the bushes beside peg 9 on our small pond had grown out of control and needed trimming. To be fair, it was impossible to see who was fishing peg 10 from peg 9, which isn't a good thing when you're coaching children, so a little trimming was needed.
However Henry went way over the top and decided that the bush had grown too far out into the pond. So despite peg 9 being the best peg for catching fish by fishing right beside the bush, Henry decided we needed to reclaim about 4 feet of water back.
In he went with bow saw and loppers, in went Shaun after him, while Sam, Charlie and I stood on the banking and hauled on ropes. We did the job, but it does look like a small disaster has happened. It's also now impossible to fish any where near what's left of the bush, due to all the sunken branches that we still need to get out of the water.
I got bitten by a mosquito, bled like a stuck pig and arm swelled up this afternoon.
Home this after noon for a late lunch and back out for coaching tonight. 28 kids and assorted parents....back home at 9.15.
It's cooled down a bit, and the Boss is back home , so hopefully I'll be able to sleep tonight. A couple of days to myself now as the Boss and daughter are at work......what to do?....what to do?
