After the storm

Today's the day ...................... for a summer storm

It had been building up to it for a few days. The weather was incredibly humid, sticky hot but overcast - and then this morning it happened. After a few deep rumbles there was the most incredibly loud thunder clap at exactly the same time as a flash of lightning. It took everyone by surprise - and they've been talking about it all day.

It was followed by a complete downpouring of rain, as only the Lake District knows how. The gutters couldn't cope and there was water rushing everywhere. Then - almost as quickly as it had come - it all stopped and eventually the sun came out. Apart from the fact that everything had had a good soaking - it was as if nothing had happened.

I was photographing some pristine white japanese anemones after the storm when this little hoverfly flew into my picture ....................
