Brian's Bits

3, or more, Lynx?

What, pray, is the plural of "Lynx"?
Me, being me, always pluralises Link  as Lynx.

An alternative title today might have been "The Gurt Shilly heap".

Let's deal with the Lynx 1st.
The 1st set of lynx is the photo: 3 photos = 2 lynx = 1 Panorama, including Skiddaw. We set off for yet another visit to the visitors' centre at Whinlatter, (Link) where you can hire mountain bikes by the hour.
We didn't.
Or if you're so minded you can pretend you're Tarzan and Go ape.('Nother link)

And finally Cyril, to the "Gurt Shilly heap".

Being from the N.W. edge of the Lake District, we regularly used to cycle to Bassenthwaite Lake, incidentally the ONLY Lake in the Lake district; all the rest are "Meres" or "Waters". If  you reallyreallyreally want to annoy me talk about "Lake WinderMERE".

After I moved to Penrith Fire Station a band of us would, periodically, take off, climb something and refuel, on descent, at a local hostelry.
One day the happy band decided they would like to climb Skiddaw (Last link honest)
Me "What the £$%^& do want to climb that thing for? It's nobbut a gurt Shilly heap."
However, they won, and climb it we did.
Seated on top having our "bait"/"snap"/"bit of grub" (Delete where inapplicable), admiring the view, one of the group remarked "He's right you know, it is just a gurt shilly heap."

I shall now put you out of your collective suffering and translate.
A "Gurt Shilly heap" translates as "A large gravel pile".
