Rock on!
Yes! Its my 100th blip!
Never thought I'd post that many images.
One of my friends is the drummer in an 80's cover band called Atari Age. They hired me to shoot the band last night at the Tilted Kilt in Elgin for the battle of the bands finals. This is the second time they have hired me despite my recommendation that they hire someone else....like a professional.
So, I walked into the venue and started looking around to assess the situation. I've never shot in a place so big. High ceiling so no flash bounce, deep stage so lots of dark spaces and LED spot lights way up high. Not a good scenario for me. I shoot with a Canon 350D...with a high ISO of 1600 and lots of grain. My camera is not meant for motion in low light.
AND...
No one mentioned the venue had its own Pro photog. As soon as I saw him I knew I made a mistake. I should have called in advance to make sure it was ok. I was lucky. He graciously allowed me to shoot, and gave me some advice on how to deal with the lighting and where to stand. At the end of the evening he gave me permission to come back and practice any time I wanted.
Despite my inferior camera in such an environment...I did ok. Not horrible...but not up to my standards. Though Atari Age didnt win the competition, this image really depicts the amount of fun they were having on stage. I had a blast!
