Raindrops on Roses

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens;
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens;
Brown paper packages tied up with strings;
These are a few of my favorite things.

Rodgers and Hammerstein, 1959

Pretty much all of these have featured for me today. OK, the kitten is actually 7 years old, the kettle is silver, the mittens are cycling gloves and the brown package was sellotaped. But I like 'em all a lot.

And talking of favourite things, Dotty and her children are coming over this weekend, which has 2 adults and 6 children very excited.

Here's a picture taken with my new toy Holga lens strapped to my nice Nikon. Which was because the piss was well and truly taken for my little lens in work, and because it was raining and I didn't want me nice lenses out in the rain. It's a right random process though - very sketchy manual "focus", manual exposure time and no aperture control at all. So, I'm quite pleased with this down at Belhaven Bay.

(By the way I always thought these are Dog Roses. But they're not, they're Beach Roses Rosa rugosa. You learn something new every day.)

When I got home from work there were 10 emails from thetrainline.com telling me that cheapo advance tickets were available for the week of the October school holidays (17th to 21st October) so I jumped on to see just how cheaply 1 adult and 3 paying (and 1 too young not-paying) children can travel with a railcard, direct to London from Dunbar. £27.40. And back? £49.45. All on the same day, 06AM from Dunbar and returning at 6pm from King's Cross. Great! London for us all for less than £80. Sadly it'll just be us, because Dotty's children's school holidays are the week before. And she's away to a cottage anyway which'll be nice.

Grammar pedantry: Took me a couple of tries to get children's right there. Because children is plural of child innit? So kid's is belonging to one kid, kids' is belonging to more than one kid, child's is belonging to one child and children's is belonging to more than one child. Definitely not childrens'. That would be belonging to more than one children, which is silly. There you go.

Definitely excited about the MacFinlows descending tomorrow, just writing gibberish now ;)
