papering over the cracks

came across this ground wasp nest today . it was sited under a hedgerow but , had been partially uncovered and broken open .
from the size of the excavation , i'm guessing it may have been a badger .
whatever it was , it would have made of in a hurry , i'm sure .
the wasps , busy "papering over the cracks" , were surprising tolerant of my presence and i managed to get quite close . i'm going back tomorrow to see how they have fared
