Rainbow Sheikh

On the way back to Dubai from the middle of nowhere, I dropped into the Emirates National Car Museum on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. It is the personal collection of Sheikh Hamad, known as the Rainbow Sheikh, housed in a giant pyramid. There is a Model T Ford, a bunch of Mercedes painted as a rainbow, a giant pickup with 4 bedrooms and 150 or so other amazing cars.

This is reportedly the world's biggest caravan and too big to fit in the museum. It is 5 stories high, 8 bedrooms and can also hold 32 cars. Quite a bizarre place all round. The curator told me the cars were worth over $20 million dollars - small change when you are a billionaire.

The Rainbow Sheikh also owns an island off Abu Dhabi called Al Futaisi. He has actually carved out his name so large on the island that it can be seen from space!
