The Lozarithm Lens

Cherhill

I don't often photograph churches, mainly because they are the specialist subject of so many other photographers that it seems redundant to try, and I seldom feel that I have something new to add. However, I happened to be wandering through the village of Cherhill this afternoon and took a few shots in the churchyard and adjacent Manor House in The Street.

St James' Church probably dates from the 12th century, but like so many churches was considerably altered by the Victorians, in this case in 1863 to designs by S. B. Gabriel.

In 1973 the rectory was joined with Yatesbury, Compton Bassett, Heddington and Calstone Wellington to form Oldbury benefice. The current priest-in-charge of Oldbury Benefice is based in Cherhill at The Rectory.

Incidentally, when I was working through the pictures I took yesterday I decided the finished crop of a picture was better than the one I blipped so I have backblipped the replacement image, and added a few notes.
