Nine Houses
I really should have waited until the trees opposite were without their leaves and then photographed the Nine Houses from the Wall opposite. Only 6 of the Nine Houses remain. Although described as almshouses they were orginally described as family dwellings. After being allowed to fall into disrepair they were restored in the 1960s. At this time families , who were living in almshouses in another part if the city which were to be demolished, were moved into these houses.
The two signs on the wall, see detail here, are the parish boundary markers between St Olave's on the left, and St Michael's on the right. I can only assume that although they were neighbours that the occupants attended different churches.
The Victorian black and white house next to the Nine Houses bears the legend "The Fear Of The Lord Is A Fountain Of Life." Another kind of fear haunts the house these days, it is now a dentist's surgery.
Back blipped Saturday so that my unbroken sequence of 143 blips continues.
