Diablo Job

This is the bikers meeting place at Devil's Bridge in Kirkby Lonsdale . It is so named because to Town Council, strapped for cash, sold the bridge over the river Lune to the Devil in 1932.

As well as being a popular destination for motorcycle enthusiasts, of which I am but one, the river is a favorite venue for subaqua clubs and schools, especially for night dives.

In order to secure their safety the divers do free bridge maintenance work for the Devil, he being responsible for the upkeep of the bridge. Their underwater torches can often be seen at night as an eerie luminescence in the murky waters. The divers are often assisted by thousands of elvers during the baby eels migration season. It gives them something to do on their way downstream.
