One of the highlights of the airshow at East Fortune was this Jet Provost T.Mk.3A, belonging to The Newcastle Jet Provost Group.

The RAF's first dedicated jet trainer, the Jet Provost was developed from the piston-engined Percival Provost, the prototype first flying in 1954. Originally built in 1961, this particular aircraft was posted to the training college at RAF Cranwell, finally retiring from RAF Linton-on-Ouse in 1993, after storage at Shawbury and Kemble, and upgrading at Warton.

I remember seeing this Jet Provost unpainted at Newcastle International Airport, where it's based, as we taxied past it after flying in from Berlin the year before last; it brought back memories of building this type as a 1:72 Aifix kit on my old kitchen table as a seven-year old in the mid 70s, trying to paint it in the friendly RAF training colours after seeing the display team Gemini Pair at RAF Leuchars - it was a thrill to see it fly past again as a grown man.
