First flight?
Young buzzards are on the wing now and you can hear them calling pitifully from high perches all day long.
This one must have crash-landed in a bramble bush at the base of a tree. When I walked past it scrambled out and perched momentarily in the open. The sight of my camera gave it the necessary impetus to get airborne and flap up into a nearby tree.
You can see its gape-mark (the yellow extension to the bill allowing it to open wide enough to fit mum's head) confirming it is still a very young bird.
