Coconut Cup!

Many a year ago, our family lived in the Cook Islands for a spell. Over there, cups made from immature coconuts were quite sought after. This is because a coconut that is the right size generally hasn't formed a shell.

This one is about the size of your fist.

They are the traditional cup used when drinking the local moonshine made from oranges - very potent stuff.

I was lucky enough in '97 to find a coconut up near Cairns, of the right size that had come loose from a tree, dried and formed a shell.

I've never had a drink from it, possibly because of the varnish I used would kill me, or because it won't stand up on its own (a bit like if you drink too much moonshine...).
