Peninsula Light

Air ambulance heading back towards Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Was hoping to catch a good Bottlenose Dolphin shot today, and spent several hours at Chanonry Point. Tides were right; fish were about; light was good; and the sea was relatively calm. Alas, no show. A tanker came into the firth, and my hopes of seeing dolphins riding the bow wave were also in vain. Eventually headed for home with a few photos of boats, and this helicopter, that passed by.

The water quality wouldn't be that great after all the heavy rain last weekend. So staying clear of the inner firth might be a sensible move, and the main reason I avoided the "Wet Session" of sea kayak training last night.

There was some other wildlife about. Several Common Seals drifted by on the incoming tide. A solitary Porpoise passed by heading out against the current. Undoubtedly some of the crowd that were at the point, will have thought they'd seen a dolphin, and headed off content with that. Quite a few seabirds, though there'll be many more next month, when migration starts in earnest.
