The Murchison Champions
These are our champions - and champions they are!. Tiff, the one on the right was selected for South island in Basketball, Volleyball and Futsal (as I mentioned yesterday)What I didn't mention was that having specifically added a netball B grade into the tournament (to allow more girls the chance of playing) they then went and selected both A&B South Island (and north island) teams just from the A grade.Tiff didn't make it - a shame but we were more annoyed because by taking a second team from the A grade basically all the B graders had played for nothing all tournament. Anyways she got a call just as we were walking in the stadium this morning to say that after protests from all the pool B coaches the rules changed - good for Tiff, she made the South island Netball B team too. She found out as we walked in the stadium this morning.
Tiff therefore spent 4 hours solid this morning, running (literally) from one code to another. She played her heart out for each code.
Rimu on the left of the picture played Volleyball today for the full South Island team
Todd (middle) just got selected for Nelson bays under 15 rugby squad.
The reason for the shot? You might be able to spot the girls wearing matching grey sports shirts. That is because THEY BOTH GOT SELECTED FOR THE NATIONAL AREA SCHOOLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM!!!!!!!!!!
I thought yesterday was emotional but today topped it. I am so immensely proud of them. Not only have they succeeded at sport but they have represented our school and the South Island as a whole to the utmost. Going the extra mile to compete, be polite and genuinely lovely students. Love em to death.
Can I also take this opportunity (not that he will see) to thanks Marcus, an EX teacher from our school who not only paid his own way up here to watch the tournament but also put his hand up to coach the winning volleyball team. he added an extra dimension to our party that we would otherwise have missed (hero worship by the students, whereas Teejay and I are just teachers!)
Pizza and hot pools to celebrate tonight
