This is a carpet made of rags. In the 1860s women cut cloth in long strips and wove different kinds of carpets, they used a loom for it.

Today I washed some of our carpets made of rags in the lake near our house. These carpets were made by my husbands three aunts, who owned our summerhouse for many years ago. These three aunts, all unmarried, had their own carpet and when I found them in an old suitcase on the loft of our summerhouse the carpets were marked with their name on it.

To wash the carpets I used environmentally friendly soap made by pine oil.
