Water Wheel

It is impossible to get a decent image of both of the crossings over the Severn; this blip is evidence to reinforce that fact!

However, I did like the warm tones in the early morning sunshine.

You are looking across a walled reservoir which was created by Magnox to ensure that water is available to cool the nucleur reactors when the tide goes out.... and boy does it go out here. The water level drops by 14.5m from high tide to low.

Situated on the concrete structure on the left, below the yellow gantry thing, you can just see the top of a water wheel which I believe is used to draw water up.

I find an incredible irony that a nucleur power station which uses atomic fission to produce megawatts of energy, relies on a water wheel which was producing energy and power hundreds of years ago.

In other exciting news... I have completed the demolition phase of the DIY and now await Mr Technical Expertise to do some accurate, precision stuff.
