A prehistoric beast?

The second floor of the building I am currently working in has a few old computer artifacts - a Burroughs adding machine, the first Apple Mac model, punch cards, old "mini"disks the size of LPs etc but this one takes the cake.

According to the card on the front this is an IBM 360/44. It had 128k memory, 2 removable cartridges of 1.28 Mb memory each, 300 card per minute card reader and a 80 cards per minute card punch! It had a paper tape reader and a selectric console typewriter. State of the art for the time no doubt. It was in use at the University from 1967 to 1974. it was specially built for scientific work and was unique in NZ at the time - UC had the only one.

Its connected to the power still so all the lights flash and look very busy. A nice little snippet of what is really recent history but in computing terms is eons ago!
