Birthday Boy
Today we cyclists belonging to the Lothians and Borders CTC congregated in droves at the village hall in Bolton, a tiny hamlet near Haddington to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of our own.
When I say cyclists, there were a hardy few who had braved the soaking showers of the later morning to cycle there, but most of us had taken the easy option of the car, only to discover that the weather improved and was sunny and warm, and an ideal day for a run down to East Lothian.
Although the invitation was for 2pm onwards, his Lordship and I arrived to find the place packed with people, their plates full and eating. When I remarked that we were only half an hour late, some wag said- well you know what cyclists are like, and I do- I should have remembered!
The feast was amazing, but I'll bet there is not a scrap left at the end for even a hungry mouse.
It was lovely seeing everyone in a happy setting and not as in the recent past, at a funeral.
The birthday boy was on great form, not looking his age, and here with his granddaughter, sharing in the cutting of the cake.
Jimmy is a cyclist, who raced in his hey day, who has been just about everywhere it is possible to go on a bike, and is still out pedalling every day.
His Lordship and I wish him many, many more miles in these legs of his.
