Dance Macabre

Hope I'm not boring you with these dragonfly shots but I am very excited about all the nymphs swimming around the pond. The eggs must have been laid in the pond the summer I created it in our garden so I sort of feel as if they are my very own tiny dragonflies.

This morning I went out as usual to check and found three nympths had crawled up the reeds and this dragonfly had already started to come out of the nympth case. It was hanging out of the sack in the nymph's back by it's tail with the head hanging downwards. Got a quick shot of that then set up the tripod with the 60mm Macro lens, ( definitely going to Glasgow on Monday to replace my larger macro as I was very wet by the time I had finished - wellies kept me dry but sitting on the wet rocks to get the shots got me quite wet ) By the time I was ready the dragonfly had turned upwards and was hanging on , as you can see, to the exuvia. ( love that name for the skin case - sounds alien)

It was fascinating watching the wings form. So unlike the irridescent wings of the adult dragonfly. I loved the way the wings at this stage look like lace so decided to upload this shot. If you look back to Thursday's upload you can see the wings as they are fully developed.

If you have time I reckon you would really be fascinated by the detail of the dragonfly and its exuvia.
Hope you had a great Saturday.
Regards Mary
