Here there and everywhere

Khan Al-Khalila

Taken in the market streets early evening tonight. I'm not working day and am still not used to Friday being the weekend! Wandered around Zamalek this afternoon and came across the old-worldy Longchamps Hotel, which I'd seen mentioned in a guide book because of its terraces and sure enough it really is a little oasis on the 4th floor. We'll be back! Free wifi too, which is a bonus. The market area tonight was incredibly atmospheric and we didn't get bothered tooooo much by sellers. There were very few foreigners wandering around and it's difficult not to feel sorry for everyone trying to make a living. Neither Bb nor myself are great at bartering, but we did our bit and I bought a few tunic cotton tops and two scarves. We probably still paid more than we should have. There was a beautiful mosque nearby (see Bb's shot) and we also walked along the street where we think Scorpionkiss took a lot of his shots. It's difficult to believe we're actually here! The time's just flying in! It must have been 40 degrees today and humid with it! Intereresting taxi ride back to Zamalek tonight through jam-packed streets because the Friday demonstrations in Tahrir Square had just finished. The Cairo traffic has to be seen (and heard and tasted!) to be believed and we saw a little girl who must have been only four dodging the cars and bikes to beg at car windows tonight.
