New Friends
I spotted this delightful pair of spotted roseate Tachyeres plasticus sunning themselves after a quick dash through the sprinkler.
As the genus Tachyeres indicates they are a nearly flightless duck. This diminutive subspecies was developed in China and imported into the USA for the delight of young children. They are not commonly found in the wild; though domestic pairs have been known to excape or be let loose.
I believe there are six ducks in this family, but the other four were being shy today. I hope to spot them again soon.
