Frome Festival - Day 7
Today I went to Trinity Church for a talk about the Burne-Jones windows.
On the left of this image is one of twelve windows in Trinity Church. On the right are close ups of the top and bottom backgrounds of each window. Do read the poignant inscription.
The main panel of each window was designed by Edward Burne-Jones and was made by William Morris and company. Morris designed the backgrounds - he was perhaps better known for his designs for fabrics and wallpapers. Although the windows were designed by Edward Burne-Jones, they were all originally designed for other churches: the Trinity windows are copies.
Afterwards, I went to the Black Swan Arts Centre, which is one of Frome's many 'lost' pubs, for another art exhibition. It's called Urban Wastelands and is a collaboration between artist Day Bowman, filmmaker Ian Knox and the multi-national music group Transglobal Underground / A Gathering of Strangers. I was very tempted to blip that instead (it's a better photo) but I've already blipped 3 art exhibitions and wanted to show something different.
I had hoped to go on a Twilight Medicinal Plant Walk this evening but it was already sold out. All the tours of Frome's Tunnels sold out within an hour of the box office opening back in May (maybe next year) and I don't expect I've a hope of getting into the cinema where there's a charity screening of Disney's latest film, Cars 2, a week before its national release. Ah well, there are still 3 days of the festival left...
