Another human achievement

To some eyes this might look like a random pile of stones, but in fact it is a broch, probably built by the Picts, just by the campsite on Clachtoll beach. It's just about to undergo some renovation work at the hands of the ever busy Assynt Historical Association. Anyway, think of the effort to get that big mother door lintel in place without a crane.

Today is our last full day in the north west Highlands. We're mainly just chilling out. I've just started reading Andrew Greig's At the Loch of the Green Corrie. Very Assynt. Very Norman MacCaig. Am already hooked.
