Illusory security

Three years ago, I lived in the shady part of Uptown. So naturally, somebody broke into my apartment and stole my iBook and my roommate's digital camera. I was devastated, but I got over it.

One year ago, when Nate and I lived in a dump in Lakeview run by a slumlord, some asshole walked into our apartment when we weren't home and took Nate's Xbox 360 and laptop.

Last night, a couple of hoodlums drilled through the lock on the back of Nate's company van, which was parked outside of our apartment, and took thousands of dollars worth of stuff.

All three incidents have made me jaded towards locks and I now think they do nothing but give you a false sense of security.
