Baggie Trousers

Days Like These

It's been one of those days that are tailor-made for going out into the middle of nowhere armed with a book (and, of course, a camera). Got plenty of reading done, and some interesting landscape shots.

Shortly after taking this, a bloke passing by in a Land Rover gave me a lift back into town to spare me the long, hot walk. It's a shame that this doesn't happen often enough these days; hitching lifts has come to be seen as a risk from the point of view of both drivers and would-be hitchers, as all hitchers are obviously murderous psychopaths, and all drivers who stop for them must be planning to abduct them and take them to a secret hideout for all manner of horrible shenanigans (although if this were actually the case, the obvious result would be a whole series of psychopath vs kidnapper death-matches. You'd think that would make the news).

Either way, like the Earth, I'm mostly harmless. And the bloke with a Land Rover packed full of climbing gear seemed alright too, with his own interest in photography and a few suggestions of good places to visit for various types of shots. All in all, a very entertaining and very enlightening hitch; if only it could happen more often, rather than just days like these.
